BLINKING AWAKE, SHE heard her head pounding. No, that wasn’t her head. It was the door.

“Ow,” Eva said, trying to sit up. That was her head.

“Eva, come on, I’ve got to use the shower,” Myles barked.

The shower? Why was Myles trying to take a shower in her bedroom? Unless? Eva sat up and saw that she was, indeed, in the bathroom. She was wearing pajamas she hadn’t remembered putting on. The smell of her vomit still in the toilet made her hurl again.

“On second thought,” Myles said through the door, “I’ll just pee in the kitchen sink.”

Myles left her to finish expelling all her bad ideas from the night prior. Once she felt as empty as she ever had, she crawled on her hands and knees to slip into her bed and was about to text Owen that she was sick when there was a message waiting from him on her phone.

No rehearsal today. See you all Sunday instead. 10 sharp.

“Thank God,” Eva moaned and promptly fell asleep for seven straight hours.
